What Is Switch

A switch is a high-frequency power conversion device and a type of power supply. Its function is to convert a level of voltage into the voltage or current required by the user through different forms of architecture. The input of the switching power supply is mostly AC power or DC power, and the output is mostly equipment that requires DC power.

Use of Switch

Switching power supply products are widely used in industrial automation control, military equipment, scientific research equipment, LED lighting, industrial control equipment, communication equipment, power equipment, instrumentation, medical equipment, semiconductor cooling and heating, air purifiers, electronic refrigerators, LCD displays, LEDs Lighting, communication equipment, audio-visual products, security monitoring, LED strips, computer cases, digital products and instruments.

Types of Switch

Switches come in many different forms, each designed for specific operating mechanisms, environments, and circuit requirements.

Basic / Snap-Action / Limit Switch Also known as microswitches, these switches are actuated by very little physical force through a tipping-point mechanism. They produce a fast, reliable switching action and are commonly used in safety interlocks, door sensors, and limit detection in industrial equipment.

Pushbutton Switch One of the most common switch types, pushbutton switches are activated by pressing a button. They are available in momentary (returns to original position when released) and latching (stays in position until pressed again) versions. Widely used in control panels, machinery, and consumer electronics. Illuminated versions provide visual status feedback.

Tactile Switch A compact type of pushbutton switch that provides a tactile feedback “click” when actuated. Tactile switches are surface-mount or through-hole components used extensively on PCBs in keyboards, remote controls, handheld devices, and wearables.

Rocker Switch A rocker switch has a lever that rocks back and forth between two positions (ON/OFF). It is intuitive to operate and commonly found in power strips, home appliances, audio equipment, and automotive dashboards. Available in single-pole and double-pole configurations.

Toggle Switch Toggle switches use a lever that is flipped up or down to open or close a circuit. They are durable and straightforward, making them popular in industrial control panels, military equipment, test instruments, and aircraft cockpit controls.

Slide Switch A slide switch uses a sliding actuator to move between positions. They are compact and easy to integrate into PCB designs, commonly used in consumer electronics, portable devices, and mode-selection functions.

Rotary Switch Rotary switches use a rotating shaft to select between multiple circuit positions. They are ideal for applications requiring multiple discrete settings, such as test equipment, industrial controls, and audio/visual devices.

DIP Switch DIP (Dual In-line Package) switches are arrays of small switches on a single component, designed for through-hole or SMD mounting on PCBs. They are used to configure hardware settings, such as address selection, baud rate, or feature enabling in embedded systems and networking equipment.

Coaxial Switch Coaxial switches are used to route RF signals between multiple ports without interrupting the signal path. They maintain impedance matching throughout the switching operation and are critical in RF test systems, antenna switching, and telecommunications equipment.

Tactile & Illuminated Switches Illuminated switches incorporate LEDs or lamps into the actuator, providing visual indication of the switch state. They are widely used in control panels, medical equipment, and any application where the operator needs clear ON/OFF status visibility in low-light environments.
