What Is LED

LED (Light Emitting Diode), which is a light-emitting diode, is a semiconductor solid-state light-emitting device. It uses a solid semiconductor chip as a light-emitting material. When a forward voltage is applied to both ends, carriers in the semiconductor recombine and cause photons to emit. Produce light. Types of LED

LEDs come in a wide variety of package types, each suited for different applications and performance requirements.

LED LAMP (Through-Hole LED) The traditional LED package with two wire leads. Available in 3mm, 5mm, and 8mm sizes. Easy to install on through-hole PCBs, commonly used in indicators, signage, and DIY electronics. Known for their directional light output and low cost.

SMD LED (Surface Mount Device LED) SMD LEDs are soldered directly onto the surface of a PCB, making them compact and suitable for automated assembly. Common sizes include 0402, 0603, 0805, 2835, 3528, 5050, and 5630. They offer good brightness, wide viewing angles, and are widely used in LED strips, backlighting, and general lighting modules.

Hi-Power LED (High Power LED) Designed to operate at 1W, 3W, 5W or higher wattage, Hi-Power LEDs deliver significantly higher luminous flux than standard LEDs. They require proper heat dissipation (heatsinks or metal-core PCBs) due to higher heat generation. Ideal for spotlights, streetlights, floodlights, and automotive headlights.

COB LED (Chip on Board LED) COB LEDs integrate multiple LED chips directly onto a single substrate, creating a high-density light source. They produce a uniform, high-intensity light with minimal glare and fewer hot spots. COB LEDs are favored for downlights, track lighting, grow lights, and high-CRI applications where light quality is critical.

IR Emitter (Infrared LED) IR emitters emit light in the infrared spectrum (typically 850nm or 940nm), invisible to the human eye. They are widely used in remote controls, night vision cameras, motion sensors, and proximity sensors.

IR Receiver Paired with IR emitters, IR receivers detect infrared signals and convert them into electrical signals. They are essential components in remote control systems, IR communication links, and obstacle detection modules.
